History of the Iron Pot
FATHER'S DAY SPECIAL - $30
First lit on 12 November 1832, the Iron pot was originally powered by sperm whale oil. The derivation of the name is unclear although it seems likely that it is linked to the cast-iron blubber try pots that were ubiquitous when the major industry of the colony was whaling.
This comprehensive history of the Iron Pot (renamed Derwent Lighthouse in 1884) is also a fascinating study of life in the colony and of its transition to the modern state of Tasmania.
